About Me!

Welcome to Em's Study Style, my name is Emma! I am a twenty-something student at Marquette University (where I am a Sigma Kappa), currently living in Milwaukee, WI. These are some commonly asked questions, but feel free to email me or comment below if I didn't answer something!

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. After college, I plan on staying in Milwaukee to teach in an Elementary School. I can't wait to start a job in Milwaukee and teach all different kinds of students. Milwaukee is beautiful and I love being here.

How tall are you?
I am 5'9, I am pretty tall!

What do you take your pictures with?
Currently using my iPhone 8 Plus but I will be switching to a regular camera soon.

Why did you start a blog?
I started a blog before college but it got lost in the craziness of starting college and work. I restarted this after a few girls suggested I started one. I love to talk about clothes, fashion, fitness,  healthy eating, and life in general! I thought only my close friends and family would be reading this to stay up to date on my life but it has grown so much!

What type of hair do you have?
Naturally curly, dirty blonde hair! It is pretty short right now because I got it cut for summer but I might grow it out/get extensions when winter rolls around.

Who takes your pictures?
It is really a mix of myself and a timer but also my boyfriend or sister helps out sometimes!

Eat & Drink Milwaukee

I have spent almost 4 years in Milwaukee going to school at Marquette University. I have explored so much of this city so I wanted to share some of my favorite places to eat and drink with y'all.

These are my favorite place to grab a drink after work or during the weekend with friends:

A great place to sit outside and have a beer. It is right on the river which means you get a great view of the boats going by while you have a cocktail or some dinner.

Another favorite of mine to grab some cocktails on a Thursday night. It is a rooftop bar that has a variety of cocktails, beer, and some light bites.

This is one of Milwaukee's oldest cocktail lounges! The inside is beautiful and the walls are velvet (!!). They have plenty of drinks to choose from. Its a great place to come to on the weekends with friends or a bring a cute date.

Saturday and Sunday morning are the most important times of the week in Milwaukee. We have some mouth watering, picture perfect, places to eat here! These are three of my favorite brunch places to go too! I'll be headed to the first one this weekend:

I die for this place. With its endless amount of coffee, marble table tops, and delicious eggs benedicts, your girl is in heaven!! If you go anywhere to eat for breakfast or brunch in MKE, come here. #LIFEISWEETMKE

This is a classic MKE brunch place. Located in the heart of the 3rd Ward, you will most definitely need to hop on "No Wait" and grab a table when you get close. Do not worry though, there is plenty to see while you wait of your table. I recommend asking for a table outside or on the rooftop. Its fun to sit and people watch while you eat the breakfast skillet and of course a mimosa!

I think this place is crazy underrated! I drag my friends here most weekend but everyone always loves it. The salmon madame is delicious along with the quiche lorraine, honestly everything here is super yummy. Ill even link the menu, HERE, because its that good.  Also I snagged that picture from "Planet Kelsey" she is a Milwaukee blogger!

Now that you have had breakfast and some drink in my beautiful, growing city, lets have dinner! These are my favorite places to eat dinner on the weekend or even during the week if it is date night with Greg:
Fresh Italian is a great way to describe the food at this beautiful place. Its has cute outdoor seating right in the third ward or sit inside during a warm night when they have the big windows wide open. Service has always been wonderful here and drinks are yummy. I recommend getting a "jar" (you'll know what I mean when you see the menu), all the flavors are really tasty and complement the meal well. Check out the menu, HERE.

This place has some of the best sushi in Milwaukee. Not only is it right on the river but it has great views when the sun is setting. Stop by on Monday for rolls that are marked down, shout out to "service industry day"! I love a good Buddha roll or Crunch roll. There are also yummy food options for those of y'all who are not big fans of sushi.
Last but not least is a great BBQ place. It is the middle of summer and what is a summer without BBQ. I just started to eat meat again so I haven't been able to enjoy this place to the fullest. However, everyone that goes here raves about how good the Smoke Shack Sampler is and the the Ribs.

Let me know if you try any of these places! Want more suggestions? Leave a comment below or email me at em.studystyle@gmail.com

College Room Tour!

Welcome to my room at Marquette University!

Do you like the blue? (LOL) I did not have a choice about the wall color and I wasn't allowed to repaint so here we are. I fought the bright blue for a while but gave in eventually. I tried THIS wallpaper from Target, sadly only two pieces stuck, you can see them above my bed.

I have a closet but I like to keep my clothes for upcoming shoots or #ootd out on the white rack from IKEA.

When You are Education but Everyone Else is Engineers...

Coming into college I had no idea what I wanted to be when I graduated or what I wanted to study in between then.

I knew I loved fashion, makeup, and lifestyle things but at the end of the day, kids were my calling. I grew up babysitting on the weekends, nannying during the summers, and working as a camp counselor to a bunch of kiddos.

I realized that teaching was where I should be, after walking into an education meeting on accident. I then spent time looking at career paths, thinking about primary or secondary education, and reflecting on my experience in education. I have always enjoyed school, I got decent grades (except in math lol) and participated in extra curricular activities. I realized early on that primary education was where I am destined to teach.

HOWEVER, I am in college. I am at a college then values Engineering over most majors. I know, I know, some of you are thinking.....no??? But the College of Education here at school is small, roughly 35 kids in primary! Which means we are a close college but it also means we are not as valued as the hundreds of engineers floating around here.

So to swing back around to "What it's like to study Elementary Education when everyone else is Engineers..."

-It is long hours spent at schools learning, observing, teaching, interacting, and understanding children.
-It is learning the endless Common Core Standards and regulations.
-It is understanding the different laws and regulations people fought for in order to have full inclusion for children who have exceptional needs.
-It is then working with those children and watching them excel in the general education classroom.
-Its learning that you don't call those types of classrooms "normal" because there is NO SUCH THING as a NORMAL classroom.
-It is learning that you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide in a million different ways AND having to be prepared to teach all of them.
-It is spending HOURS on a lesson plan that you may only teach once.
-It is getting your flu shot early so you are ready for the waves of sick kiddos in the winter.
-It is being only a junior in college but already looking at volunteer things to do over the summer once you are working.
-It is learning that you are a teacher but you are also someone the children love and look up too.
-It is not calling them "boys" and "girls" because gender is so fluid and unknown these days. They are "friends", "students", "buddies".
-It is knowing that sharing your snack with a student may be the only thing they eat until breakfast tomorrow.
-It is spending time testing, assessing, and learning about students so you can find out what they understand, what you have to teach, AND finding a way to mix all their understanding into one lesson.
-It is learning that you can mix MATH and ENGLISH into one cohesive lesson because school is fluid and learning is endless.
-It is picking out "teacher" clothes to wear because business clothes do not cut it in a first grade classroom.
-It is also knowing money will be tight and scare for a while because you do not go into teaching for the money.
-It is learning your aunt was a teacher for years and is finally going back to teach again but still giving you all her old teaching things.
-It is knowing that every day you step into the classroom YOU are making a difference in a students life.

Yea, I will not be creating prosthetics, building towers, or wiring a computer but I am giving children the foundation they need to someday do those amazing things. So next time you tell someone that Education is an easy major, think about what your saying. YOU would not be where you are today without your first grade teacher explaining how to read or your 8th grade science teacher showing you how to mix chemicals. #TeachOn

Leggings I LIVE In

These are my top three favorite leggings that I have in my closet right now!

I love my Alo ones, HERE, are newer for me but I have worn them so often I need to invest in another pair. I know they are on the more pricey side but I have definitely received my money's worth out of these. Plus, I love the mesh detailing on the sides!

Next are my Zella pair, HERE! I will not lie to y'all, I think I own almost 5 pairs of Zella leggings. Whether they are cropped, cut out, high waist, low rise, blue, grey, pink....I have them all. Plus, it doesn't help that Nordstrom has them as part of their sale for only $35, HERE. Or find the cropped ones for only $33, HERE. All sizes are still in stock!

Finally, one of the first pairs of leggings I bought for myself that did not come from TJMaxx or Old Navy...LululeLemon! I love them because of the little zippered pocket in the back and the pocket on the side can fit my cell phone when I go run or workout!

If you have a question about a workout top or my sneakers, shoot me a message at em.studystyle@gmail.com or comment below!
